    Tasting Notes:

Cos d’Estournel is typically a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc – do not be fooled by the relatively high Merlot content, as these are full-bodied, dark, brooding tannic wines when young which develop a complexity and intensity that can rival many top growths from Pauillac.

    Description

    Cos d’Estournel Blanc 2000

Cos d’Estournel Blanc 2000 is named after its 19th century owner, Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel, and it was he who built the bizarre oriental edifice that is a landmark for any tourist in the Médoc. Today Cos d’Estournel is without doubt the leading estate in St-Estéphe. It is located in the south of the appellation on the border with Pauillac and its vineyards are superbly sited on a south-facing gravel ridge with a high clay content, just north of Lafite.

Cos d’Estournel Blanc derives its unique style from the winemaking methods employed at the estate. As it ages it will evolve constantly, revealing different facets of its personality over time.
During the first three years after harvest, Cos d’Estournel Blanc offers intense aromas of fruits and flowers. After four or five years of aging, it will develop toasted notes and a lovely roundness, gaining in depth as it reaches the height of its aromatic expression.

Perfectly adapted to the terroir in which they thrive, the vines of Cos d’Estournel were able to resist the year’s extreme weather conditions in a most remarkable fashion, showing not a single sign of water stress, thanks to their roots, which continue to grow deeper from one year to the next.

These conditions were particularly favorable to the estate’s Sauvignon Blanc grapes, which reached an unprecedented level of concentration and depth. Likewise, our Sémillon grapes attained a higher level of expression and proved ideal to be used in greater proportions than usual in the final blend of Cos
    d’Estournel Blanc 2019.

Rich and complex, the 2019 vintage delivers aromas of jasmine and grapefruit that are a lovely counterpoint to its distinctive briny character. A finely structured, sophisticated wine, Cos d’Estournel Blanc 2019 has exceptional cellaring potential.

The power of the elements. Unique in character, Cos d’Estournel Blanc evokes the coolness of sea spray and salty sea winds whipping one’s face while also conjuring the warmth and richness of the land. A generous, lively wine, it brings to mind a slice of bread spread thickly with quince jam, a sun-drenched stall of autumn fruit or sudden recollections of the sweetest summer moments.
