Vintage Character

A dry early winter was followed by substantial February rain and continued spring rainfall. Temperatures exceeded historical averages, with brief June and July heat spikes but none during August or September.

Tasting Profile & Food Pairing

Cardamom and forest-floor aromas meet deep blue fruit. Silky tannins form focused layers, leading to a beautiful, long finish.

Winemaking & Maturation

Harvested September 2–30, the blend comprises 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot. Forty percent new barrels were used; bottling occurred in July 2016 and release in June 2017.

Estate fruit from Napanook Vineyard; minimalist winemaking includes hand cluster sorting, optical berry sorting, gentle pump-overs and hand-racking barrel to barrel.

Winery Background

Christian Moueix began producing Dominus in 1983 from the historic Napanook Vineyard in Yountville. The 134-acre estate has 102 planted acres and is dry-farmed, with gravelly clay-loam soils at the Mayacamas foothills.
