Vintage Character

Early budbreak and uniform June flowering were followed by uneven véraison. Strict harvesting and sorting retained only the healthiest, ripest fruit, producing a fresh, harmonious and elegant 2014 with substantial structure.

Tasting Profile & Food Pairing

Intense garnet red. Complex fruit and floral aromas meet integrated toast, blackberry, blackcurrant, violet and cedar. The palate is powerful yet elegant, fresh, harmonious and notably long.

Winemaking & Maturation

The blend is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Parcel-specific fermentation was followed by about 20 months in predominantly new French oak.

Fermented in wooden, stainless-steel or concrete vats according to parcel and ripeness, with controlled temperatures, regular pump-overs and approximately 20 days of maceration.

After malolactic fermentation and individual barrel selection, the final blend was aged for a further 20 months in French oak barrels, primarily new.

Winery Background

Recorded as a wine producer in 1234, Lafite received Premier Grand Cru Classé status in 1855 and was acquired by Baron James de Rothschild in 1868. Its 112-hectare Pauillac vineyard is planted on deep, fine gravel and includes parcels adjoining Saint-Estèphe.
