Vintage Character

An atypical, early season: exceptionally warm, dry spring followed by a less sunny July and wetter August. September hail altered picking schedules, but early ripeness protected grape quality.

Tasting Profile & Food Pairing

Intense purple-toned colour. Initially oak-led, opening to red fruit, tobacco and spice. Elegant and fresh, with fine structure, density, length and a complex fruit-driven finish.

Pairing: Roast beef, Lamb, Duck, Mushroom dishes.

Winemaking & Maturation

The blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot. Fermentation occurred in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel, followed by 18 months in barrels, half new.

Plot-specific pumping-over and maceration; temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation and malolactic fermentation in concrete and stainless-steel vats. Maceration lasted 15–20 days.

18 months in barrels: 50% new oak and 50% one-wine barrels from Tonnellerie des Domaines. Bottled May 2013.

Winery Background

Neighbouring Château Lafite Rothschild, Duhart-Milon was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1962. Its 76-hectare Pauillac vineyard occupies the Milon hillside, and the estate is the commune's only Fourth Growth in the 1855 Classification.
