Alter Ego De Palmer 2017
Alter Ego De Palmer 2017. This wine from the vineyards of Château Palmer was first produced in the 1998 vintage, the result of a new approach to selecting and blending. The purpose is to make two different wines at Château Palmer that are both fully in keeping with the values and reputation of this great estate: finesse and elegance, a rich bouquet, and balance and length. Palmer and Alter Ego are both subtle reflections of Château Palmer’s terroir, two interpretations of the growing conditions in a given vintage. Alter Ego is intensely fresh and fruity, juicy and irresistible. Smooth and round as soon as it has finished barrel ageing, Alter Ego’s elegant bouquet and tannins can be appreciated within the first few years of bottling. Palmer combines aromatic complexity, length, and power. It has excellent structure and balance, invariably displaying legendary elegance and finesse.
Produced by the same team and from the same vineyards as Château Palmer, Alter Ego is literally the ‘other side’ of Palmer, another expression of Palmer. Alter Ego has the distinction and character of Palmer but is made to be drunk much earlier. Merlot is generally the dominant grape variety, making it supple and ready to open within 3 years of the harvest. A great wine with intense fruit, fresh and juicy.
Spontaneity. That sudden desire to indulge without delay, Château Palmer wished to gratify. Thus, while remaining true to its philosophy, another expression of its terroir came to be. Since the 1998 vintage, a new approach to selection and blending has yielded this supple and rounded wine, distinguished by its freshness of fruit, crisp intensity and richness…from the moment out of barrel, it’s all that’s natural, bottled.
Complexity. That of a terroir, expressed in the wines of Château Palmer. Parcel by parcel, the estate’s teams must nurture it daily. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, protected and enriched by nature in all its diversity, develop notes of fruit, flowers and spice. Never exuberance – on the contrary, with each passing year, ever greater harmony, and length omnipresent. Aromatic richness, powerful tannins, and between them – velvet.
